The 2019 Regional High-Level Forum on Green Economy concluded today its meetings in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain. The event is part of a series of regional conferences taking place across the globe, covering five key regions, which includes the Asia Pacific, Africa, Americas, Middle East and North Africa, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The three-day event highlighted evidence-based green economy solutions that have successfully been carried out in the MENA region while also highlighting the effective strategies that have been implemented to help achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The first FinTech for Sustainability Hackathon kicks off in Bahrain with 50 participants

The first “BENEFIT Fintech Hackathon for Sustainability” in the MENA Region hosted by Bahrain Fintech Bay in partnership with The Manama Hub of the Global Shapers Community officially kicked off with 50 participants. Strategic Partners include the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and Tamkeen Bahrain. Knowledge partners of the 4-week hackathon will be conducting workshops, providing mentors, and internship opportunities. Partners include the United Nations Bahrain, Al Waha, EY MENA, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Global Islamic and Sustainable Fintech Center, and Bank ABC.

The event took place at the Four Seasons Hotel, and was attended by national Government authorities, diplomatic corps, international organizations, and other partners.

Public Administration Innovation Labs launched by BIPA in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme

IAEA Signs New SPF for Bahrain Together With 15 Other UN System Agencies

On 24 October 2017, the Government of Bahrain signed a Strategic Partnership Framework (SPF) with the United Nations (UN). The SPF—Bahrain’s first ever—covers the period 2018-2022. Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and UN Resident Coordinator Amin El Sharkawi co-signed the framework document. Four UN system agencies resident in Bahrain and 12 non-resident UN system agencies, including the IAEA, have subscribed to the framework. Ms Najat Mokhtar, Director of the Division for Asia and the Pacific in the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation, signed on behalf of the Agency.
